Visionary, Founder, and Artistic Director of the Vancouver Biennale, a not-for-profit charitable organization created in 2004, Barrie Mowatt has a history of initiating public and community projects and has been the recipient of several awards, including the Vancouver Business in Arts Award (from the Vancouver Board of Trade) and the Ethics in Action Award (from Vancouver City Savings and the BC Work Ministry).
He has twice been nominated for Western Canada’s Entrepreneur of the Year in the category of socially responsible businesses. Philanthropist, educator, psychologist, entrepreneur, art collector, and former contemporary art dealer/gallerist, Barrie Mowatt has integrated his passion for education, learning, the arts, and community engagement into the creation of the Vancouver Biennale.
His vision includes the celebration of the public space of the cities in Metro Vancouver via a biannual, 24-month OPEN AIR MUSEUM exhibition of the world’s finest public art installations that encompass sculpture, new media, performance, photography, and film, free for all to enjoy wherever they live, work, play, and transit. Additionally, he has helped to create an unparalleled legacy for the province and region by facilitating an International Residency Program for emerging artists, securing the donation of major public-art installations by many of the most renowned artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, and establishing numerous cultural and educational programs that invite the world to Vancouver to celebrate its architecture, public space, and cultural diversity.

TalentsTalk is a series of events designed to inspire and gather a community of curious and open-minded people who seek a deeper understanding of the world. Our purpose is to help our community shift perspectives and stimulate their creativity by promoting innovative ideas and approaches
We hold 4 events a year to create a place, a moment for our community to take the time to really think and focus. Each of our TalentsTalk event focuses on one inspiring speaker and one specific theme to give the chance to our community to truly take the time to be inspired.
Our Mission is to inspire a community that wants to learn, grow and share. We strive to gather and inspire a community of curious people who seek a deeper understanding of the world and want to go beyond the surface of things. A community of people who are driven by learning more, who are open to new possibilities and experiences and are looking for inspiration to help them push their boundaries.
