Working on a team of Corporate Accountants, you’ll bring experience in all aspects of full-cycle accounting including accounts payable and accounts receivable. This role provides accounting services including account reconciliations, cash management, financial analysis and advice and other financial services to Destination Canada. Integrating seamlessly in to a small, well trained team, this role is relied upon during the full cycle accounting process to complete tasks assigned to them in a timely manner. The person in this role will be able to use their accounting experience to deliver exceptional service and logical and well thought out analysis to support the financial objectives of the organization.

The Corporate Accountant works as part of a team of Corporate Accountants. Each Corporate Accountant has the same core responsibilities but will work on a rotational basis through different sets of tasks that are assigned to each role.

Essential Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduation from a recognized university and a professional accounting designation.

EXPERIENCE: When applying, the candidate must clearly demonstrate in writing how they meet the following experience criteria:

3 or more years of progressive experience working in an accounting or finance role.

Experience in providing financial reports and analyzing information for employees, managers and senior management.

Advanced experience in financial systems including Excel and other ERP systems.

Experience with bank cash management software and an understanding of the changing requirements of preparing and processing payments in different foreign currencies / jurisdictions.

Experience in completing account reconciliations for month end review.

Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable and invoicing and accruals in an environment with contract and commitment tracking.

Experience in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as ensuring compliance with internal accounting policy and procedures.

Experience in reviewing budgets, forecasts and variances would be considered an asset.


Knowledge of DC objectives, policies, mandates, programs, relevant legislation.

Knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, standards, practices and systems including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to independently analyze and research changes and trends and describe their implications.

Working knowledge of Public Sector Accounting (PSAB) would be considered an asset.

Knowledge of financial management techniques, principles and practices including cash management practices.

Knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices involved in using and training on a range of financial systems, software applications and databases.

Knowledge of the practices and procedures associated with report writing to synthesize, summarize and communicate information.

Knowledge of general office procedures including record keeping, filing and retrieval systems, etc. to manage own work and to ensure easy access to information.

Knowledge of the machinery of government and government financial and administrative policies, acts and legislation would be considered an asset.

Knowledge of banking systems in a global environment would be considered an asset.


Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Highly proficient in use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Good verbal and written communication skills to explain and interpret difficult financial concepts to financial or non-financial audiences and decision makers.

Good interpersonal skills; ability to coach and mentor others, provide direction and support and foster cooperation.

Ability to identify the need for, and implement new procedures, accounting approaches and methods.

Ability to analyze financial data and reports and identify opportunities to improve the provision of financial information to management.

Tact and diplomacy.
