Responsible for the program design, quality control, participant experience, and achievement of program outcomes for the Accelerate and Elevate collaborative research programs.

The Director, Accelerate & Elevate is responsible for the program design, quality control, participant experience, and achievement of program outcomes for the Accelerate and Elevate collaborative research programs.  This role is accountable for the oversight of overall program management and implementation for both programs and establishes annual operational plan program goals.

Role Responsibilities:

Lead the Mitacs Accelerate & Elevate program team providing direction and management expertise, focusing on quality participant experience, program outcomes, and partnership management;

Work closely with Business Development and/or Partnerships team to develop partnerships to increase program uptake when those partnerships require process or program changes for implementation

Develop recommendations for program design changes to lead to better participant experience and outcomes

Oversee implementation and evaluation of pilot initiatives within the programs

Ensure health of programs through regular monitoring of key program metrics

Oversee and monitor all aspects of the Mitacs Accelerate & Elevate programs, ensuring client experience and continuously strengthening both programs based on input

Serve as point of contact, and provide recommendations where required, in resolving serious conflicts within individual files or projects

Evaluate escalated exception requests to program guidelines, eligibility criteria, and processes

Working closely with Mitacs Training Department to ensure training initiatives are supportive of program outcomes

Proactively lead and contribute to the development of quality programs, ensuring that all aspects are delivered efficiently, effectively and on schedule;

Develop annual operational plans, monitoring and revising progress throughout the year

Promote proactive and inclusive involvement of representatives from all Mitacs resources and programs to further the objectives and activities of the Accelerate & Elevate programs;

Represent, manage and/or develop relationships with appropriate academic institutions, private and non-profit organizations and agencies, or manage appropriate liaison/representation;

Manage Program staff and oversee departmental resources allocated to the programs;

Proactively seek opportunities for the leveraging of other Mitacs Programs for the benefit of Accelerate & Elevate, and leverage Accelerate for the benefit of other Mitacs Programs;

Advance the brand of Mitacs by being its ambassador in all external relations and activities.

Expectations:

Required qualifications include a university degree (graduate degree strongly preferred), strong client focus, project management skills, and exposure to an academic environment.

Strong presentation and composition skills.

5 to 7 years’ experience researching, developing and producing strategic opportunities, creating and managing partnerships, and overseeing implementation plans.

3 to 5 years’ experience managing a team, including coaching and mentoring, performance management, and continual development of team capacity and experience

Extensive experience liaising with diverse stakeholder groups, including government, industry and academia is a requirement.

Knowledge of learning techniques and professional development is an asset.

Superior communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills, the ability to handle pressure and to influence and lead people will be invaluable.

Demonstrated abilities to develop and project manage large scale initiatives.

Solid analytical, judgment, leadership and relationship building skills.

Commitment to embracing and fostering a strong team environment.

Bilingual (French/English) is preferred.
