This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager to lead a multi-year, multi-site project.

Founded in 1989, CanWel is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia and trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol CWX, and is Canada’s only fully integrated national distributor in the building materials and related products sector.

CanWel operates multiple treating plants and planing facilities in Canada and the United States, and operates distribution centres coast to coast in all major cities and strategic locations across Canada, and near San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.  CanWel distributes a wide range of building materials, lumber, and renovation products.  In addition, through its CanWel Fibre division, CanWel operates a vertically-integrated forest products company based in Western Canada, operating from British Columbia to Saskatchewan, also servicing the US Pacific Northwest.  CanWel owns approximately 136,000 acres of private timberlands, strategic Crown licenses and tenures, log harvesting and trucking operations, several post and pole peeling facilities, and two pressure-treated specialty wood production plants.

SUMMARY

CanWel is commencing a multi-year journey to implement a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in nine sites across Canada. The selected ERP is a system with a strong manufacturing and execution module specific to the lumber industry.

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, Project Manager manages the entire project lifecycle and leads the project team comprised of Core Leads and the Functional Implementation team members.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager to lead a multi-year, multi-site project and utilize skills in change management, project planning, communication, negotiations, and conflict resolution.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS:

Ensure adherence to formal project methodology standards, guidelines, and project management tools while recognizing flexibility for CanWel’s needs and requirements.

Create project plans, project kick off, functional scope, business process redesign and map out system functions from business requirements.

Develop and manage budgets, activities, activity time estimating, GANT charts, critical path, tasks lists, RACI charts, resource loads, change control, and risk management reporting.

Perform fit-gap analysis documentation and presentations.

Manage a defined project scope from the established project charter and ensure that all beyond scope requests flow through the Change Management process.

Implement and control approved scope changes to ensure that the common and standardized processes are respected.

Assist in functional system design of the ERP system according to industry best practices and accounting standards requirements.

Motivate and manage a diverse project team (internal & external) and situations to ensure successful completion of assigned projects on time, on risks, and on budget.

Effectively manage and communicate project objectives, requirements, expectations, concepts, and progress to the project team, steering committee, and senior management required.

Support and guide the ERP project team through the entire project lifespan, ensuring all stages are well explained, communicated, and key deliverables and milestones are accomplished according to plan and timeline.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, bilingual French and English considered an asset

Excellent time management, analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent relationship building skills, comfortable working across all levels of an organization

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a major in Information Systems, or Accounting is a minimum required

Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is required

Experience

Experience implementing an ERP system in the lumber industry or raw materials manufacturing industry

Experienced managing multimillion dollar enterprise ERP projects using proven project management principles (PMBOK), methodologies, and software tools (MS Project);

Minimum 10 years of Information Systems project management experience, with 5 years specifically in raw materials manufacturing and/or lumber industry
